New Poetry by Ali Znaidi

An Hour-glass Sonnet

I had the fear that
I wouldn’t be able
to write a sonnet
about the glitzy sand
since I have found
an antiquated hour-
glass in the attic.

          ***
These days hour-
glasses are difficult
to find, more difficult
than finding sand grains
—victuals for fiery
furnaces of time:

The grate of gravel in a hologram of silence.
