New Poetry by Michele Seminara
Corinthians
Love suffers
but gains nothing.
Bearer of flames, mysteries,
mountains, it rejoices
not in that which is perfect
but clangs its tongue of truth
to speak of a faith
which fruitlessly abides.
Love fails. It fails!
Seeing itself mirrored
in a childish face it is provoked
to offer its body to be burned
and — always — it is burned.
Love endures rudeness but longs
to be known as kindly as it knows.
And when the gift of its hope
is extinguished love seeks
cessation in the fathoms
of iniquity.
