New Poetry by David Adès

Imaginings 3

When Angel Ivo Garcia

pointed to the girl sitting alone
at a table across the square

on the island of Samos

and said to me, she could be the one
and you will never know,

I stood up, left him

with his bottle of retsina,
his tales of loss and grief,

his unquenched lust,

and walked over to her,
hand in hand with destiny,

never looking back.
