New Poetry by Suzanne Verrall

Local Time

having negotiated
the international departures lounge
in my sleep
I woke on the other side of the globe

the currency was familiar
the exchange rate was horrendous

I patted the pockets of my pyjamas
in search of a toothbrush
while an orange cat rubbed
figure eights between my legs

and touching down
another jetload of somnambulists
