New Poetry by David Ades

The Ship That Sailed

The ship I boarded, finally,
after so many failed attempts

and with such light steps,

has sailed on without me,
did so years ago

though I was slow to notice,

leaving me adrift on a shore
with fierce winds and scudding clouds

and a constant moaning sound

that seems as if it might be
coming through my lips.
