A Dusty Al Purdy Book
Dust is illiterate,
unable to tell the difference
between a hotel drawer bible
and an award winning poetry book,
and our only answers
are sneezing and clearing our throat,
as if we had something important to say,
but we end up reading the silence instead-
our dilated pupils pinpointing a metaphor,
which seems deeply personal
until we close our eyes and realize
we're just plagiarizing the dark.
